In Case You Need to Hear This Too
My son stood looking up at the rock wall at the local park. He'd done it before, but with the assistance of a momma's helping hand pushing him over the top.
This time he attempted to climb up all by himself. Unprompted. He was only 3 years old at the time. Proud of his brave attempt, I shouted over to him, “Jaxson, you are so strong!”
All too soon he slipped. His size 11 velcro Paw Patrol shoes pounded into the mulch below. With courage, he reached up to try again. This time, his small fingers quivered as he slowly lost his grip.
Distraught, he cried out, “Mom, I can’t do it.”
“Whenever you feel that way, remind yourself, ‘Hey, I’ve already done this before. I know I can do it again.’” I coached.
This time with a stick-to-itiveness and focus on the end goal, he succeeded. He amazes me.
Maybe you need to remind yourself the same thing. "Hey, I've already done hard things before. I know I can do it again." Maybe it's not time to give up. Maybe it's time to try.
